Curators Notes:
The Hour opens with the much anticipated Joe Bonamassa acoustic live album which is fantastic. Check out the version of “Hummingbird” also. The great-grandfather of Rock and Roll, Chuck Berry has a new one out which was a multiple play this past week. Four of the albums featured this week have been released in June. Hot and Fresh. Standouts for this week – to these ears at least were the Big Joe Shelton, Vin Mott, Andy T Band and Oscar Wilde albums. Ok, nearly all of them. Rock has the cowbell, blues has the harmonica and the jugband. This weeks’ “More Jugs” song is from the Birmingham Jug Band. Thanks to the Roots Music Report and Blues Music Magazine and many others for feeding the list with new discoveries.
Enjoy!

Curators Notes:
Must be my birthday week to be able to include the very best blues song of all time (Muddy Waters “Hoochie Coochie Man” – see the list) on a new releases post. Even better, he backed by the band that was my window to the blues – The Rolling Stones. Yes, the album was originally released back in 2012 as part of a DVD/CD set. This past week, the standalone CD was released by Eagle Rock, thus on this new releases list. Enjoy. AND… a unique pairing of Elton John and Jack White in a even more unique genre. They kick out a great blues-y “2 Fingers of Whiskey” as part of The American Epic series. Five of the Fifteen fresh releases over the past two weeks. Two great finds whose albums received multiple plays this week were Karen Lovely and Luis Oliart. Highly recommend both. We wrap it up a live George Thorogood classic on a live release from earlier this year.
Enjoy!

Curator’s Notes: Excellent fresh cuts this week with four songs from albums released in the past two weeks. This week’s list is bookended by two artists outside the blues genre but two solid bluesy tunes. It starts off with Little Steven – while although a rocker (and Sopranos actor) from the E-Street band – he has an authentic blues name. Casey James follows. He is an exciting new find for me and his album received multiple plays this week. The middle of the list goes more traditional with Big Joe Williams, Harrison Kennedy and Memphis Minnie. Memphis Minnie and her Jug Band was featured on a new Jug Band compilation album which is a great listen. The jug is to the blues what the cowbell is to rock. The tagline is better though… “More JUGS”. Ivor S.K. was another find this week who deserves more than one song on the list. There are rules though. David Field’s instrumental guitar jam followed by goth rocker Dorothy finish up a great week of the blues. Enjoy!

Curator’s Notes: Opens with three songs that are outside the sometimes rigid box of The Blues. This is how we discover new, right? The first song “One More Thing” is haunting. The remainder is a solid mix of the new and those that have brought it for years. Mr. Bishop – always good to hear from you!
What are you listening to that we should be featuring? Enjoy.

Curators Notes: Start it off by breaking my own rules with Selwyn Birchwood. The rule? Never two songs from the same single artist album and no artist repeats in a six month span. Attended Selwyn’s Pick Your Poison cd release party at the Funky Biscuit last night. Fantastic show. Selwyn is a very talented artist and showman who pays respect to the legends while looking to the future. This is how a genre rolls on. List continues with a few fun boogie tunes. James Luther Dickinson’s album title is a classic –I’m Just Dead, I’m Not Gone. The last two 2016 songs that will appear on the list with Mick Fleetwood Band and Tab Benoit. It is all 2017 on these pages from here on out. The last tune is from the PBS American Epic Documentary which is airing this month – T-Bone Burnett, Robert Redford and Jack White form an interesting trio of producers. We all need a little jug band music every now and then .
Enjoy the list.

Curators Note:
Brand New Kenny Wayne Sheppard single release kicks us off this week. I am working on shortening the expiration date to six months. Half the tunes this week are from albums released in the last month. I dipped into 2016 for a couple of great favorite cuts -love the Harpdog and Jimmy Thackery songs. Almost done working the 2016 songs into the lists – Mick Fleetwood and his fellows next week. This selection rocks early and rocks late with a softer middle. The purists may howl at the Norah Jones cut – it sends chills up my spine with each play – but hopefully redeem myself a Lead Belly (released this week) and Todd Albright song which takes one back to the roots of The Blues. The list ends in a global fashion with Vargas Blues Band out of Spain. The Blues Community exists everywhere. The song title translates to “All Day I Wonder” and the album covers all the common blues themes: lost love, walking to rivers, and taking trains to Memphis or Chicago.
Welcome your Feedback. Enjoy!

Curators Note: Four new releases from this week – and the new single from Selwyn Birchwood to preview the album Pick Your Poison due out in a couple weeks. I was so looking forward to the release of the TaJMo album. Perhaps the expectations were a little too high – I am going to give it another listen. The Eric Bibb tune is the serious one of the bunch (and a great album) then the list goes for a ten song romp of rowdy blues fun – the word “Boogaloo” appears in two different song names, how cool is that? The Tim Gartland album is worth a listen (and a purchase). Enjoy the fun tune “Too Many Groceries” on this list. For the blues purists, I did color outside the lines this week into funk, country and soul. Welcome your feedback and suggestions,
